"Guns don't kill people, people kill people"

The devastating shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut prompted some of the usual responses from the gun lobby and their supporters. Among them, the nearly cliche' notion that "guns don't kill people, people kill people."

In response to that response, I drew a cartoon that assumed a world where this nonsense would be accepted as unquestioned fact. If the gun folks were right on this, then surely soldiers would be just as likely to choose, say, a candlestick (remember the board game "Clue"?) as they would a combat rifle.

Because, after all, a candlestick is just another object that could be used to kill people.
